Fifty years ago The Beatles came to America for one final tour. Their journey in America began on Friday, February 7, 1964, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr arrived from the U.K. at the newly-named John F. Kennedy International Airport. With cameras flashing and reporters jostling, they were whisked into Manhattan amid the screams, shouts and tears of New York area teens, braving the cold for a mere glimpse of the band. Then, that Sunday, the veritable king of the television variety show, Ed Sullivan, introduced them to a captivated American audience of more than 73 million viewers - at the time a television record. And just like that Beatlemania was upon us.
Ladies and Gentlemen...The Beatles! brings us back to the early '60s when rock & roll was re-energized--some say saved--by four lads from Liverpool. The exhibit covers the period from early 1964 through mid-1966 - the years Beatlemania ran rampant in America. During this time the band affected nearly every aspect of pop culture, including fashion, art, advertising, media, and, of course, music. On display are many Beatles-related pop culture artifacts from the period, as well as correspondence, instruments, posters, photographs, interviews, interactive displays, and a booth in which visitors can sing-along with Ringo Starr. Screenings and a series of talks reveal the continuing impact of the Beatles.
Curated by the GRAMMY Museum and Fab Four Exhibits, Ladies and Gentlemen...The Beatles! provides fresh new insight into how and why The Beatles impacted America in the 1960s - and beyond.

Chinese Light Sculptures
Each display is composed of hundreds or even thousands of individual pieces
Sculpture materials vary from traditional hand-crafted silk lanterns to porcelain plates and tiny glass bottles filled with colored water
These intricate light sculptures are fascinating by day...and absolutely breathtaking at night!
From Lanterns to Lumination
Today's modern festival of light began with the ancient art of Chinese lantern making in the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. to 220 A.D.)
Lanterns are still built using traditional methods, but also utilize modern materials and technology to create exciting, entirely new experiences
The birthplace of the Lumination exhibit is in Zigong, in the Sichuan province of China, home to the original Chinese Lantern Festival
From Zigong to Gilroy
More than 100 artisans and technical staff will do preliminary work in China and then ship materials overseas
A team of 40 Chinese designers, carpenters, welders, and electricians will live and work in
Gilroy for about six weeks to construct the exhibits
Additional Chinese artisans and performers will also come to Gilroy for the festival itself
Lumination at Gilroy Gardens
Similar festivals have been hosted in Toronto, London, Texas, and Florida
The lanterns and light sculpture displays at Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park have been specially designed and constructed for this unique venue
The park's gorgeously landscaped gardens, trees, and water features provide the perfect natural backdrop for this splendid celebration of Chinese history and culture
Porcelain Dragon: A colossal 220-foot-long dragon made up of thousands of porcelain plates, bowls, cups and spoons, all tied together by hand
Temple of Heaven: A stunning reproduction of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, part of the 600-year old Temple of Heaven religious complex in southeast Beijing.
Carp Jumping Over the Dragon Gate: Three delightful water displays featuring animated carp leaping over ornate Chinese gates
Bejeweled Qilin: Fascinating sculptures composed of thousands of tiny bottles of colored water depicting the Qilin, a mythical creature with the head of a dragon, the antlers of a deer, the body of an ox, and the tail of a lion
Terracotta Warriors: Life-size figures inspired by the famous "army" of 8,000 terracotta warriors that guarded the tomb of the 3 rd century B.C. Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang
Panda Sanctuary: Lovable giant pandas at play in a bamboo forest
